Parents as Teachers Newsletter – February, 2013

February, 2013

We are well into our second semester for this school year, but there are still a number of opportunities available for families within the district.

Developmental and Health screenings continue to be offered at the Windsor Parents as Teachers office in the Windsor Elementary School in Kimmswick, Missouri. The screenings are available for all children age 3 months to Kindergarten entry. The health screening is administered by one of our school district nurses. She weighs and measures the children and then performs a hearing and vision check. Following the health screening your child will be seen for the developmental screening by a Parents as Teachers or Early Childhood staff member. The developmental screening measures your child’s development in the following areas; Communication/Language, Concepts, Gross and Fine Motor, Problem-Solving and Personal/Social. The screenings are very beneficial if you have any concerns about your child’s development. Screenings are held on Thursdays, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., through May 9, 2013.

Windsor School District offers a Title I Pre-K preschool class for children meeting eligibility requirements of below average in at least one area of development. Screenings for next year’s Title I preschool will be Thursday, March 7 at Freer Elementary and Thursday, March 14 at Windsor Elementary. Please call Janelle Dinwiddie, Early Childhood Coordinator at 636-464-4408, ext. 4500 to schedule an appointment.

If your child has turned or will be turning 5 on or before July 31, 2013 they will need to be screened and registered for Kindergarten for the 2013-2014 school year. Screenings for children attending Freer Elementary will take place on Wednesday, March 20th and Thursday, March 21st. Please call Freer Elementary at 636-464-2951 to schedule an appointment. Screenings for children attending Windsor Elementary will take place on Wednesday, April 24th and Thursday, April 25th. Please call Windsor Elementary at 636-464-4408 to schedule an appointment.
