O.W.L. Program Overview

Gifted Education Program

The Windsor C-1 School District Gifted Education Program, Outstanding Windsor Learners (O.W.L.), is a pull-out program that serves the needs of our identified gifted and talented students in the capacity of independent studies and investigations for students from 1st to 5th grade. The differentiated educational program provides a student-centered environment that challenges the student to fully develop his/her abilities. These students also are identified for enrichment of the regular classroom curriculum. Creative thinking skills and enrichment activities in the academic areas of math, language arts, science, social studies, and computer technology are appropriate to each grade level and are often applied to other areas of study.

The affective needs of gifted students are addressed to assist the students in understanding their own social and emotional needs. Emphasis is placed on understanding of self in relationship to perceptions of giftedness, social competency, empathy, persistence, and intrinsic motivation.
