For 8th Graders

What to consider before going to high school….

Career Planning for Better Future

Why start planning now? What do you want to be when you grow up?
No one says you have to know exactly what you want to do when you grow up, but it is important to start considering what line of work you can see yourself in. High school will provide you the opportunity to be exposed to specialized content areas in depth.

For example…….
Interested in engineering, take additional science and math courses outside of state requirements.
Interested in cooking, take courses in culinary arts.

You don’t have to limit yourself, but it is a good idea to look at what interests you and how high school can expose you to your interests.

Also look at what clubs or organizations are offered at high school. Clubs and organizations can further your exposure to your interests.

Graduation Matters

How to plan?Consider your likes and dislikes
Think about the subjects you like and the subjects you may not like as much. Assess your strengths and weaknesses in each of those classes

Take an interest inventory
Many 8th grade students across Missouri will take Missouri Connections Interest Inventory, other 8th graders will take the Explore. Here at Windsor Middle, 8th graders will take the Explore.

The Explore will assess a students academic strengths and weaknesses, and aligns them to occupations.

An interest inventory matches careers that are aligned with your interests. When taken seriously, Missouri Connections can be very accurate. Yes, you will change over the years, but there are some interests and characteristics you have now that will never change.
