Day 5 – – PE
We are still working very hard on remembering all bus, playground, classroom and hall rules. Listed is a copy of skills your child will need to know for 1st quarter: Practice recognizing numbers 0-10 randomly, Practice counting 1-25, Practice identifying capital and lowercase letters A-Z, Practice identifying the sounds of the letters A-Z, Practice identifying the sight words: a, of, the, and, at, I, to, Practice fine motor skills such as: writing first name, cutting, writing the letters, Identifying colors & shapes, Reciting the Days of the Week. Many of the children are identifying their first names as well as reciting their addresses and phone numbers. Thank you for all of your help at home. It really does pay off.
We are well into our letter-sound program (Pathways). This program follows a phonetic approach. Your child will be learning how to make the different sounds of each letter. We will study the sound that each letter makes and do activities that revolve around the letter. Fun songs, activities, books and “Show and Tell” will be coordinated with the letter of the week. We have been working hard on stretching, blending, and segmenting our words. If you have anything that would be of interest during any of our letter weeks, please let us know. A visit from an iguana during Ii week or a visit from a nurse during Nn week are examples of some of our past visitors.
Letters we are learning this quarter:
Mm, Nn, Ff, Vv, Pp, Bb
Thank you for returning the conference forms so promptly. If you have not returned these, please do so as soon as possible. The folders seem to be working nicely for transporting daily work and notes. The children must check in with these daily even if they are empty. If you ever have a note to send, please put it on the return to school side. I will be sure to see it if you keep it in your child’s folder.
Thanks for all the snacks that have been coming in. The children really enjoy these special treats. Snacks are welcomed at school at any time. They can be individual or for the whole class. Pretzels, chips, dry cereal, cookies or crackers are all great snacks and easy to hand out. We are a peanut free classroom, so please keep this in mind when sending in snacks. We currently have 18 students in our class.
Please continuing saving all Box Top of Education tabs and Karsch’s receipts. Please send with your child in a plastic bag.
Continue to send in your reading slips for Pasta House. Your child can receive free meals for returning completed forms. Pasta House will give your child up to three free meal coupons if they return three completed forms. In October, Pizza Hut will offer your child one free personal pan pizza for their completed form. I will send home replacement forms when each child returns a form.
Birthdays are very special in Kindergarten. We are happy to celebrate your child’s special day. There are a few guidelines that must be followed in doing so:
• We do not have parties in our classroom, but you may purchase a treat from our cafeteria (636-464-4408) for us to serve during our snack time.
• If you are planning a party for your child, please note that no one may be excluded, per school policy. This means that you either invite the entire class, or all boys, or all girls. We wouldn’t want any hurt feelings!
